Although we can’t avoid the crowds altogether, we have timed our Vatican Museums tour to coincide with one of the last entry times, so you’ll get to experience the Vatican at its least congested. This is particularly helpful during the summer months, when tens of thousands of travelers visit every day. After the museum, we will have a short walk to reach the most important Basilica in the world. Our visit will continue exploring the highlights of Saint Peter church and its Crypt.

The Appian Way has a rich legacy of ancient Roman history. Because burials were forbidden within the city walls, the deceased were brought here to be laid to eternal rest. Villa Farnesina was once a private home. Fortunately, its doors are now open for you to come and explore.

Occupying pride of place within this 15th century church, whose facade is built from travertine taken from the Colosseum, is Caravaggio’s stunning Madonna di Loreto.

Commissioned at the beginning of the 17th century, it controversially depicts a barefoot Virgin Mary – something which according to contemporaries caused uproar at the time of its unveiling.
